Meat Chicken Sessions (2 meetings for this one class).

Raising modern hybrid chickens for meat can take as little as 4 weeks for Cornish game hens or 8 weeks for larger roasting chickens.   Some of the traditional heritage breeds can be raised in 13 weeks.  Without a year round commitment or a large amount of land, you can raise your own meat chickens!  The class is geared to those wishing to raise 5 - 100 meat chickens in their backyard or pasture for their own use.  The instructor will cover breed selection, brooding chicks, nutrition, housing, health, costs, predator issues, daily management and the slaughter and dressing of meat chickens during the first meeting.  The second meeting is a demonstration of slaughter and dressing of chickens where students can assist if they wish.  No prior poultry knowledge is assumed.
