Community Gardens Information
Interested in the 2009 Community Garden Season?  Current Gardeners will be sent renewal information in March 2009.   New gardeners should check this site in April, complete a form and mail it in at that point.  New gardeners are usually assigned a half plot, and will be assigned plots by May (there are usually enough plots for all).

2008 CODMAN COMMUNITY GARDENS INFORMATION

Welcome old gardeners and new! Are you excited? We’re looking forward to a great year of gardening with all of you. The spring potluck is scheduled for April 6th and will be held at Bemis Hall at 4:00 pm. It’s a great opportunity to see old faces and meet new gardeners, eat good food, and kick off the garden season.

All completed registration forms need to be returned to CCF by March 31st  2008. Only CCF members are eligible for plots. Because of demand, plots not started by JUNE 8th 2008 will revert back to CCF office for reassignment with no refund.

Plots will be listed on a map in the Barn by late April.Plots are assigned in this order:  a. gardeners renewing   b. returning gardeners that are changing plots   c. new gardeners   d. returning gardeners wishing more space. The Garden Committee is responsible for plot assignment.  Households are limited to a maximum of two annual plots and one perennial plot (except grandfathered plots).

The gardens and the farm have different operating times. The farmers at Codman work hard and it is expected that their privacy will be respected. There is a bathroom for public use behind the office.

GARDEN HOURS: 8:00 am to ½ hour after sunset

FARM HOURS: 9:00am to 6:00pm

  •      CCF has garden tools for your use; they are stored under the Farm Store
  •      Water conservation is a priority. Soaker hoses and hand watering is recommended. If sprinklers are used, please don’t use them between 10am-3pm (the hottest time of the day). Any water leaks or other problems should be reported to a member of the Garden Committee.
  •     Pilferage remains a problem. Get to know your plot neighbors; if you don’t recognize someone don’t hesitate to ask if they are members – fellow gardeners won’t be offended.
  •    Place unwanted rocks at the base of your nearest faucet.
  •    Parking is available at the top of the gardens, at the corner of Lincoln and Codman Roads.
  •      Non-organic fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides are not allowed.
  •      If you plan to use heavy metal stakes, please paint them yellow so we can spot them at season end.
  •      Barbeques are permitted but water must be at the ready.
  •       Pets are allowed, but must be leashed.
  •      Bob Bird has created a garden website that is very helpful for all things to do with the garden http://www.rjbird.com/ccg/about.htm
  •       Any problems should be brought to the attention of a Garden Committee member.
  •    Members can check-out books at the CCF Gardener’s Library (fellow gardeners are always a source of advice, if wanted!).
  •  Try not to plant tall plants (sunflowers) at the edge of your garden that will shade neighboring gardens.

END OF SEASON - Saturday, OCTOBER 25th will be the last day of the gardening season. The next day, we will do a plot check. You must remove all non‑biodegradable materials from your annual plot by this date. If you trenched or hilled your plots, you must level it out in preparation for the spring plow.
